Conyer

Conyer is a small village owing its origins principally to barge building and brick manufacturing which used to employ hundreds of people in the area. The creek, with access to The Swale and River Thames, offered answers to some of the logistical requirements of these industries.

Today the village is now home to local yacht owners, employees working in the boating industry, people who work in the local town of Teynham and beyond and by those who simply have retired to Conyer to enjoy the peace and tranquillity. Many of the boat owners keep their boats at either Swale Marina or Conyer Marine.

The village has one waterfront pub, "The Ship" which is friendly and serves honest, but unpretentious food. Shops are to be found in Teynham which is a larger village approximately a one mile walk across the fields or a little longer by road. A walk or bicycle ride along the Saxon Shore Way offers majestic views. There is also a local bus service. See page showing 'useful phone numbers' for details and times.

We are sure we can tempt you to visit Conyer from seaward or landward in the near future. Enjoy!

In Teynham

You will find several pubs serving food, an excellent fish and chip shop/restaurant called Crispins, a Chinese take-away and a small Co-op supermarket, chemist and other shops.

Canterbury

The Cathedral City of Canterbury, home of the Church of England, is only 30 minutes by train from Teynham. See links page for a link to the main Canterbury website, and useful phone numbers above left to get train times.
